Fall Festival

Zane's school had a party today for each of the classes individually for 20 minutes. I thought that wouldn't be enough time for a party, but it ended up feeling like an eternity.
Last night Zane had a hard time going to sleep. Charlie didn't get home from work until 8:30, so Zane got excited all over again and was awake until 10:30. Then he woke up on his own at 7am. I realized this is how his first day back last Tuesday started and it was probably going to be a bad day.
The kids could dress up for the party. We were going to have him wear Karlee's old lion costume but it's so thick and it was 80 degrees outside, I couldn't make him wear that hot costume. So I put his rash guard and surf shorts on and put gel in his hair and messed it all up. It was the best I could do in 20 minutes with what we had in the house.
The flyer the school sent home said parents could come to the party. I didn't realize every parent was going to be there. I was a bad Mommy and was exactly 1 minute late. Everyone else was already there. I walked into the church foyer and could see all the kids standing next to their parents. And I could hear screaming. Yep, it was my kid, standing at the double doors out of the nursery with his hands up trying to reach the handles so he could escape. I finally got him calmed down and we found a game to play that was like Plinko. He LOVED it.

But other kids wanted to play and we were supposed to be going to different game stations, so I told him we could go play a new game. Screaming fit! We got over to the bean bag toss and I showed him how to throw the bags in the holes. He loved it.

Time to move. Screaming fit! This happened about 5 times.
Finally it was time for the kids to go to the church offices to go 'trick or treating'. They're supposed to hold a rope when they walk somewhere, but Zane was screaming like he didn't want to leave the nursery so I told his teacher I was going to take him home. She offered to go get candy for him and looked very confused when I told her that we don't give him candy.
It was only 11:30am but he passed out on the way home and slept for 4 hours! He was so exhausted. I have got to do a better job getting him to bed VERY early on school nights. Even though we've been doing it for a couple of months now, it's still really hard to make him go to bed so early. Especially since I'm such a night owl.
